Lunar New Years has always been something that was difficult to properly celebrate here in the States. In my freshman year of college, I felt even more distant from my family, so I wanted to create something that I could send to my parents at home in Texas as well as my other relatives in China and hopefully bring a smile to their faces. I also wanted to practice my graphic design; thus, I tasked myself with designing more greeting cards (after my first batch of winter holiday cards) using Adobe Illustrator.
I was primarily inspired by Chinese prints, New Year's good wishes, and Lunar New Year's symbols like lanterns and the gold yuanbao.
From top to bottom:
1: A simple pattern-focused design with lantern highlights
2: A playful design centered around the Chinese idiom 恭喜发财, which is used often as a New Year's greeting, but literally means "wishing you great wealth"
3: A design specifically highlighting the new pig year
